Description
English: The Japanese battleship Yamato and her escorts steam towards Okinawa on 7 April 1945. The light cruiser Yahagi is steaming on her starboard side. The photo was taken from an aircraft from the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV-9). The original caption states: "This photo indicates type of weather which handicapped both search and attack planes".
The image is part of an album of photographs collected by Captain Carlos W. Wieber during his command of the aircraft carrier USS Essex (CV-9) during 1944-1945.
