Description
Français : Achevé en 1869 après 11 ans de travaux, l'hôtel de ville d'Angoulême, bâti en ville haute à l'emplacement de l'ancien château comtal, présente une architecture éclectique aux multiples influences. Mais seuls quelques éléments, 2 tours XIIIe-XVe s., subsistent de ce glorieux passé.

En parcourant le jardin bordant l'édifice, abritant par ailleurs l'office de tourisme municipal, on peut admirer une statue de Marguerite de Valois, soeur de François Ier.

Et sur le versant S-O, côté pl. New York, un monument en hommage aux 660 Charentais disparus lors du conflit franco-prussien de 1870-71, visible à l'image, ainsi qu'une stèle commémorant le souvenir des réfugiés républicains espagnols accueillis en 1939.
