Pte 44939, 16th Worcestershire Regiment died 29th July 1918 aged 29. Son of William Jarvis and Caroline of The Court, 32 Key Hill, Hockley, and husband of Violet Maud nee Stanley. His brother, Pte 14328 Albert Henry, 11th Royal Warwickshire Regiment died 21st November 1916 aged 32 on the Somme and at the time of his death their parents were residing at 9. Kent Terrace, Lodge Road, Hockley. He is buried at Varennes Military Cemetery, Somme France
Buried in a Public Grave at Key Hill Cemetery, Hockley, Birmingham, West Midlands. This is not a paupers grave. The grave may be 40 feet deep and at a rough guess 24 feet square, built of brick. There may be as many as a 100 burials, and those families that could afford and inscription are names on the marker, those who could not, their loved ones are lost for ever. The markers are double sided with graves, and there are may such markers and graves in this cemetery, some of the markers have been destroyed by time and weather. The C W G C have erected a screen wall in this area with names and the grave marker inscribed. I have not located all the markers.
