Description Jatos Lookheed Thunderbird (T-33), Dassault Mirage IIIEBR (F-103) e Gloster Meteor Mk-8 (F-8) expostos na entrada da Academia da Força Aérea em Pirassununga/SP. A FAB utilizou 58 aeronaves Thunderbird T-33 entre os anos de 1956 e 1973, quando começaram a ser substituídos pelos jatos Embraer AT-26 Xavante, que foi o modelo treinador para os pilotos se habituarem na transição de pilotagem com os modernos, velozes e recém incorporados Mirage IIIEBR. Os caças supersônicos foram fundamentais para a defesa aérea do Brasil por 33 anos. No ano 1968, o ministro da Aeronáutica, Marcio de Souza e Mello, informava em um documento confidencial que a FAB estava “praticamente desprovida de equipamentos para a defesa aérea”. O histórico Gloster Meteor, aparece timidamente ao fundo. Os Gloster Meteor foram os primeiros aviões da era a jato da FAB e foram trocados por 15.000 toneladas de algodão com a Inglaterra. Foram entregues via navio 10 Gloster Meteor TF-7 para treinamento e depois 60 Gloster Meteor F-8, o modelo caça. No dia 22 de maio de 1953, o Gloster Meteor de treinamento TF-7 (4301) decolou do Aeroporto do Galeão, inaugurando a era a jato da FAB.
