English: U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) lauded Andrea Perterson, a constituent from Everett who was named the National Teacher of the Year for 2007 at a White House ceremony on Thursday.
The 33-year-old teacher at Monte Cristo Elementary School in Granite Falls, Wash., received the honor for her outstanding work and leadership in music education. In a letter to Peterson, Inslee said: “By revitalizing the music program at Monte Cristo Elementary School and the Granite Falls School District, you’ve shown vision, persistence and hard work. Your commitment to students is second to none. You truly are a fitting recipient for this prestigious honor. “Policymakers should take note that a leader in the music education world has been named National Teacher of the Year. Music and the arts provide access to learning and opportunities for all kids to achieve.” Teaching is tradition in Peterson’s family. Her father, Victor Rahn, has been in the classroom since before Andrea was born. Two sisters-in-law and her mother-in-law are also teachers. Inslee and U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (D-Wash.) both attended the event at the White House. |
