Les matines des heures de la Vierge ouvrent sur deux images en vis-à-vis. Étienne Chevalier, accompagné de saint Étienne tenant la pierre de son martyre, prie devant la Vierge. Marie, couronnée, allaite l'Enfant dans une niche de style Renaissance, ceinte d'un portail gothique, sculpté de personnages de l'Ancien Testament. On remarque Moïse tenant les Tables de la Loi. Un chœur d'anges joue de la musique, chante ou encense la Vierge. Sur l'entablement du mur du fond, à décor Renaissance de pilastres et panneaux de marbre, court le nom du destinataire, "Maistre Estienne Chevalier", et au-dessus, une frise de putti tient des écus portant le chiffre "E E".
