Joanna Southcott’s box at the Bedford Panacea Museum. When it is opened, all ills will cease.

Summary edit

Description
English: Joanna Southcott, the eighteenth-century Devon prophet, left a box which was to be opened in the presence of 24 bishops. It was inherited by the Panacea Society who ran advertisements in the 1960s announcing that war, crime, and distress of nations would increase until the box was opened. It is still sealed: this replica is on display in their room at Bedford where the bishops were to have gathered.
