Description |
English: Portrait of the author of "Nieuwe Schouburg", Jan van Gool's 1750 sequel to Arnold Houbraken's "Schouwburg"(1718). This plate shows a landscape in his hand, which was his specialty as a painter. He was not only a writer, but a respected painter. The poem on the print says that the father of the engraver, Arnold Houbraken, was a good friend of Van Gool.
A. KUIPERS. |
