H. is uncertain, but neatly printed his (or her) initials and the date. He applied the paint thinly so that the ivory shines through to mark the highlights und give a transparent effect to the young faces. The features are firmly sculptured with flecks of pink on the cheeks and blobs of red at the eye corners. The initials are probably those of Johann Heusinger, who painted several portraits of the Prussian royal family."
