Corisande Armandine Leonie Sophie Bennett nee de Gramont, Countess of Tankerville (1783-1865), seated before red drapery and wearing yellow decollete dress with white lace trim, black embroidered shawl draped around her arms, her dark hair curled and upswept beneath a red, white and yellow turban, her left arm resting on a green velvet cushion and red curtain in the background. Watercolour on ivory, gilt metal frame, the reverse engraved with inscription, Countess of Tankerville / (nee De Grammont). Rectangular 86mm (3 3/8in) x 113mm (4 7/16in) Notas a pie de página Born Corisande Armandine Léonie Sophie de Gramont, Corisande escaped France during the Terror with her family, including her mother, Aglaé Louise Françoise Gabrielle de Polignac (1768 – 1803), the daughter of Gabrielle de Polastron, the favourite and confidante of Marie Antoinette.

In England, Corisande was brought up in the household of her grandmother's great friend, Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. Here she grew up alongside Lady Caroline Ponsonby, who was later to become the infamous Lady Caroline Lamb.

Upon her marriage to Charles Augustus Bennet, 5th Earl of Tankerville in 1806, Corisande and her husband moved to Charles Street, London.
