Description
Photograph of John Shaw Rose, Mayor of Barnsley, South Yorkshire, 1905-1907. He is wearing the traditional mayoral robes of Barnsley, presented to the town in 1873. He was chairman of Barnsley Football Club from 1909 to 1933. This was originally a sepia photograph, and you can still see some of the sepia tone. Sepia is a process which uses sepia ink from a cuttlefish. The process was used until the 1930s.
