Notes |
The Jubilee Drawingroom was held at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday 10 May, 1887. It was very prolonged owing to the large number of presentations. It was an unusual royal drawingroom in admitting women who had divorced their husbands for ‘cruelty, desertion and misbehaviour’ but were in no way to blame themselves. The Queen stayed for an hour, after which her place was taken by the Princess of Wales (Journal, vol. 85, p. 212). On 18 May the Queen was photographed in the studio at Windsor by Lafayette in her ‘Drawingroom dress’, expressly for publication (Journal, vo. 85, p. 231). Lafayette’s 1887 photograph shows the Queen wearing her small diamond crown with the arches removed, white muslin veil, double-row pearl necklace and drop earrings, Garter sash and star and orders on their ribbons on her shoulder (NPG Ax26453) Cataloguing supported by the Pilgrim Trust |

This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. |
