Taken during the tour and editathon at the Judges' Lodgings, Lancaster. The work shop of Robert Gillow was adjacent. Gillows of Lancaster and London were notable for their high quality furniture- which is displayed here.
The term was first used by Gillows, to describe this writing desk made by them for Lord Derby at Knowsley Hall in 1798 it used a George Hepplewhite design. Carlton house was the Lond home of the Prince of Wales. Documented in the 1796 Estimate Books. Another was made for Scarisbrick Hall, Ormskirk in 1823. |
