Julia Franck wurde 1970 in Berlin geboren. Sie studierte Altamerikanistik, Philosophie und Neuere Deutsche Literatur an der FU Berlin. 1997 er-schien ihr Debüt ›Der neue Koch‹, danach ›Liebediener‹ (1999), ›Bauchlandung. Geschichten zum Anfassen‹ (2000) und ›Lagerfeuer‹ (2003). Sie verbrachte das Jahr 2005 in der Villa Massimo in Rom. Für ihren Roman ›Die Mittagsfrau‹ erhielt Julia Franck den Deutschen Buchpreis 2007. Der Roman wurde in 33 Sprachen übersetzt. Weitere Auszeichnungen: Alfred-Döblin-Stipendium der Akademie der Künste (1998), Stipendium der Stiftung Niedersachsen (1999), 3sat-Preis in Klagenfurt (2000), Marie Luise Kaschnitz Preis 2004, „Roswitha Preis" der Stadt Bad Gandersheim (2005)
