Image title | Die Sandsteinskulptur zeigt, wie der nur mit einem Mantel bekleidete römische Himmelsgott Iuppiter im Zweigespann über eine am Boden kniende Gestalt mit Schlangenbeinen hinweg galoppiert. Sie stellte einst die Bekrönung eines säulenartigen Monuments dar, ein Typus, der vor allem in der römischen Provinz Obergermanien verbreitet war. Die Forschung hat diese Denkmäler "Jupitergigantensäulen" getauft. Die schlangenbeinige Figur entspricht in ihrer Darstellung den aus der Erde gewachsenen Riesen der klassisch-griechischen Mythologie, den Giganten, die von den olympischen Göttern in einem gewaltigen Kampf besiegt wurden.<br> Die Skulptur wird im Depot aufbewahrt. |
