Slightly detuning one note in a just musical fifth resembles the introduction of a time delay.

Summary

edit
Description
English: Shows the approximate equivalence of detuning one note of a just perfect fifth to phase shifting that note by a fraction of a cycle. The equivalence only occurs at the after a specific amount of time has elapsed. The permits an approximate time between phase beats, which the periodicity of the phase difference between the sine waves. Triangular waves are used to help visualize this periodicity -- phase beats occur between two pure sinusoidal waves. Exact tuning produces a wave with periodicity of T0. The Displaced wave is time lagged by Tx, which gives us an approximation to the wave form after the fundamental beat period T1B.
