80-G-K-13832 (Color): President Franklin D. Roosevelt, (left center, seated in automobile's rear seat) Speaking at the Washington Navy Yard, District of Columbia, during ceremonies transferring USS PC-468 to the Royal Netherlands Navy, 6 August 1942. Following transfer, the submarine chaser was renamed Queen Wilhelmina. Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands is seated on the President's right, barely visible behind the automobile's raised side window. Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt is standing behind the car, wearing a white hat and suit, with several Secret Service agents in her vicinity. The Navy officer standing outside the car to the President's immediate left is his Naval Aide, Captain John L. McCrea. Note the U.S. Marine honor guard in the left background. USS Hartford is in the center background, with the Eleventh Street Bridge and Anacostia Park beyond. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. |
