Description
English: 11 rows of Friezes of Hoysala architecture, around the Hoysaleswara Temple, Halebidu, Karnataka, India. From the bottom to top, the rows are (1) Elephants which represent strength, (2) Lions which represent valour / courage, (3) floral design, (4) Horses which represent speed, (5) Creeper like designs with some images carved in the middle of each curve, (6) Scenes from various epics and stories of the past, (7) Makara carvings, here depicted as a combination of many animals' parts (like body of pig, trunk of elephant, jaws of crocodile, legs of lion, etc.), (8) Swan sculptures, (9) Sculptures of musicians and dancers, (10) Small gopuram type carvings with gods, goddesses or their vahanas and (11) Sculptures of variety of professionals as well as scenes from everyday life of the times.

The intricate work is individualized without repetition, around the entire temple, showing the attention to detail as well as workmanship.

Row 6 has the three main Gods of Hinduism included in this portion - Brahma, Shiva (along with Karthikeya, Ganesha and Parvati) and Vishnu.
