Mitten im Kaiserstuhl, in einem kleinen nur nach Norden geöffneten Talkessel, liegt das Dorf Kiechlinsbergen und an seinem östlichen Ende das "Schloß" - eine ehemalige Propstei des Klosters Tennenbach. Der fast 50m lange Bau liegt nahezu genau in Ost-West Richtung und öffnet so seine ganze Front nach Süden.
