“此驛に下逆（しもさか）の鍛冶あり 昔福岡宗吉といふ名匠（めいかじ） 帝の勅命を受（うけ） 大井川の水に和（くわ）し剱一口（けんひとふり）打得たり 帝御幸（ミゆき）あつて業を試んと新刃（あらミ）を水にひたして 急流の上より藁一筋を流さしめ 其藁此剱の影を流（ながれ）ず 却（かへつ）て水上（みなかみ）へ逆上るゆへ　帝感じ給ひ　名を下逆と勅号す 其後青江某の家に傳え 青江下逆と呼ぶ 此刀一度紛失し 福岡貢種々辛苦して 勢州二見浦にて手がヽりを得て 竟（つい）に刀を手に入 主家（しゅうか）を興す 忠臣稀なり この因（ちなみ）によってこれを圖す“
掛川に下逆という鍛冶がいたことから、妖刀青江下逆と関わる歌舞伎演目『伊勢音頭恋寝刃』の主人公、福岡貢が伊勢二見浦で日に照らして密書を読む情景を描いたもの。
