Kalamkari bed spread:

The kalamkari means "Pen work" reffered to work on the textile done in the vegetable dyes by artisans from Machilepatnam, Kalahasthi and palakollu.

These works were done both by the Hindhu and Muslim artists who cattered to the needs of temples where they were used as temple hangings; to the elite Hindus and Muslims who used Kalamkari 's for bed spreads,Tent furnishings,cushions etc.

During the colonial rule this fabric became very popular and was used for garment making by the Europeans .The theme were drawn from Hindhu mythological stories.

Islamic floral motifs and designs like the tree of the life etc.Later social scenes from every day life also began to be depicted .
