English: Kalarimurti,

19th Century AD South India Wood The image of Shiva showing him in the act of chastising Yama is known as Kalarimurti. Shiva is seen bursting out of the linga and the sula piercing the neck of Yama to save the boy Markandeya. Markandeya was fated to die at age of 16. Approaching near death Markandeya reached Tirukadavur in Tanjore district and offered worship to the linga enshrined in the Shia temple. When the lord of death Yama came to bind the sould of Markandeya; Shiva to save his devotee bursts out of the linga and pierced the neck of Yama with sula. Govt Museum Chandigarh
