Description
Svenska: Kalmar domkyrka på Kvarnholmen i Kalmar uppföres i tre etapper efter ritningar av slottsarkitekt Nicodemus Tessin d.ä. Kyrkan började uppföras 1660. Den invigdes knappt halvfärdig 1682 och stod helt färdig 1703. Kalmar domkyrka ligger vid Stortorget och är en korsformig centralkyrka. Den kupol som ursprungligen var avsedd att kröna kyrkan kom aldrig till utförande. Tessin hade 1650-1653 rest i bland annat Italien, och domkyrkan i Kalmar är tydligt inspirerad aav kyrkan Il Gesù i Rom.
English: Kalmar Cathedral, Kvarnholmen, Kalmar was built in three phases after drawings by castle architecture Nicodemus Tessin the older. The church started to be built in 1660. It was scarcely half finished in 1682 and it was completely finished in 1703. Kalmar Cathedral is located at Stortorget and is a cross-shaped central church. The dome originally intended to crown the church never came to fruition. Tessin had in 1650-1653 traveled in, among other places, Italy, and the cathedral in Kalmar is clearly inspired by the church of Il Gesù in Rome.
