| Description |
The K-225 was an experimental helicopter which first flew in 1949. Seven were built and were largely used for crop-dusting. Two were supplied to the US Navy and the type was later developed into the XHOK-1 Huskie. Originally built with a Lycoming piston engine, this K-225 was fitted with a Boeing 502-2 gas turbine engine in 1951 and became the world’s first helicopter with a turbine-driven transmission. It was officially transferred to the Smithsonian Institute from the US Navy in 1957 and it is seen on display at the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center as part of the National Air and Space Museum.
