Церковь Спаса Преображения, архитектурный стержень Кижского погоста, является вершиной народного деревянного зодчества, неповторимым образцом мастерства плотника. К сожалению, история не сохранила имен мастеров-плотников, построивших церковь Спаса Преображения на острове Кижи. До нас дошла лишь легенда о мастере Несторе, который, завершив строительство, бросил топор в Онего и сказал: "Не было, нет и не будет такой!". И действительно, церковь представляет собой один из лучших образцов мировой народной архитектуры и демонстрирует вершину плотницкого ремесла.
