Description

NPS/Patrick Myers

Weather this week is spectacular, with highs around 60F and calm, sunny conditions...great for kayaking!

One of the hidden treasures of the Great Sand Dunes ecosystem is the wetland system west of the dunefield. San Luis Lakes State Wildlife Area protects part of this wetland system, with the largest lake adapted for recreational use. Visitors can drive right up to the large lake, or hike to nearby wetlands. Above the water is a panoramic view of the dunes and Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
