Summary edit

Description Native, cool-season, perennial, twining or sometimes prostrate legume. Stems are to 4 m long and more or less rusty-pubescent. Leaves are 3-foliolate, with ovate to lanceolate leaflets (occasionally ± circular), 3–12 cm long, nearly hairless to rusty-pubescent on both surfaces; stipules are lanceolate and 2–4 mm long. Flowerheads are racemes 4–5 cm long and 2–12-flowered. Sepals are densely rusty-hairy. Petals are 30–40 mm long and dark red or purple. Pods are compressed, 5–10 cm long and densely rusty-hairy. Flowering is in late winter to spring. Occurs in a variety of habitats,but is especially common in coastal forests in the first few years after fires.
