Description
English: Keyingham Cemetery, Keyingham, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
In December 1895 the parish council sought land for a new cemetery, eventually opting for this plot on Eastfield Road (then known as New Road). Cherry Garth, the field to the west of Church Lane (see 195381) had also been considered but there were protests by Hull Road brewer James Jackson who was worried that his water supply would be contaminated. This half acre plot cost £100 when agricultural land was generally selling at £33 per acre. The first gravedigger appointed was Mark Goundrill and the first burial was that of seven month old Florrie Goundrill on 28 December 1898 [from 'Keyingham and its People - The Story of a Millennium' ISBN 0 9536486 0 5].
