Summary

edit
Description
English: An Edwardian municipal open air pool dating from 1902. Originally for women only, later for mixed bathing. The last public admission was in the mid 1970s. The building was leased for some years (with the pool boarded over) to a dive club, but is currently disused and in a poor state of repair.

In the early 2000s Reading Borough Council was considering private redevelopment of the site. This triggered the formation of a group aiming to save the baths from demolition and have it restored for public use.

The campaigners' cause was boosted when English Heritage gave the building a Grade II listing in 2004. However, the KMC were unable to raise sufficient funds for their own renovation scheme, and the Council decided in November 2012 to put the site on the market.
