Summary edit

Description

King Lalibela watches travelers come and go from his perch near the ceiling at Lalibela's modern airport. If Lalibela were with us today, I'd like to think he'd be pleased that Lalibela continues to be a pilgrimage site, and amazed that pilgrims now come from all over the globe. Better yet, he could tell us exactly when and how the churches were built.

Getting to Lalibela wasn't always as easy as it is today. For many years, air service was by DC-3, and the airport facilities consisted of sheds and huts.
