Description
English: Kis-Sváb Hill Protection Area which is part of the Buda landscape protection area and Duna-Ipoly National Park. Former called Martinovics Hill. Open to public. Under the protection of the Budapest Municipality since 1991. This 7.2 hectare area towering over a built in urban region of the city. From the highest point (258m asl.) of this nature reserve the view of the capital is magnificient. The hill primarly consist of Upper Triasssic (200 mio. ys old) dolomite which is covered by late Eocene (38 mio. ys old) fossiliferous limestone. Most interesting fossils are calcite and baryte crystals, these have been found in the limestone quarries. Flora: the most important local plants are: saxicolous grasses and carstic scrub forests. - Budapest District XII., Hungary.
