Summary edit

Description

Steven Grey's (The Fighter Collection) Duxford-based Curtis P-40N Kittyhawk NL1009N wearing the 1943 Western Desert colours of RAF FR870 "GA-S" from 112 Squadron. Originally 43-23494, it was acquired by the USAF Museum, Dayton in 1958 and scrapped for parts in the 1960s. The paperwork may have been acquired by a new owner. In any event the ID was adopted by a Kittyhawk Mk III, s/n 840 RCAF, c/n 27490 which became N1009N. In 1994 it was exported to the French-based Flying Legends as F-AZPJ and was repainted as a Flying Tigers aircraft. In 1998 it returned to the UK becoming G-KITT with the Fighter Collection at Duxford. In 2005 it was acquired by Peter Teichman at North Weald. In 2017 it was exported to the USA as N40P (then NX40P, then NL40P).
