Deutsch:
Ermöglicht durch die ab 1862 erfolgte Umsetzung eines allgemeinen Bauplans für Berlin, des „Hobrecht-Plans“, wurden die ersten öffentlichen Toiletten in Berlin Anfang der 1870er Jahre realisiert. Der umfassende Bebauungsplan sah unter anderem ein hochmodernes Abwassersystem für die damals schnell wachsende Stadt vor. Teile dieses Kanalsystems sind noch bis heute in Betrieb.

Der Vorgängerbau der heutigen öffentlichen Toilette am Theodor-Heuss-Platz wurde vermutlich in den 1910er oder 1920er Jahren neben der damaligen Straßenbahnhaltestelle des Platzes errichtet, und erhielt ihr heutiges Aussehen bei Umbaumaßnahmen sehr wahrscheinlich in den 1970er bis 1980er Jahren.

Die schwule Klappe am Theodor-Heuss-Platz

Die Klappe am Theodor-Heuss-Platz liegt im Stadtbezirk Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. Sie gilt als einer der beliebtesten Sex Klappen im gesamten Berliner Raum. Der Platz wurde Ursprünglich im Jahre 1907 als Reichskanzlerplatz erbaut. Doch am 18.12.1963 nur sechs Tage nach dem Tod des ersten Deutschen Bundespräsidenten Theodor Heuss in den Theodor-Heuss-Platz umbenannt. Aber im Laufe der Jahre hatte er schon Zahlreiche andere Namen. So wurde er in der Zeit des Nationalsozialismus in den Adolf-Hitler-Platz umbenannt und sollte zu dieser Zeit auch schon den Namen Mussoliniplatz bekommen mit Monumentalbauten & Denkmäler.

Doch wie bereits erwähnt ist die Klappe am Theodor-Heuss-Platz eine, wenn nicht sogar die beliebteste Sex Klappe der Stadt. Denn sie ist eine historische & klassische, im Keller liegende 80er Jahre Retro-Klappe mit einer langen Gemeinschaftspinkelrinne. Somit ist sie eine der letzten ihrer Art in der Schwulen-Hauptstadt und hat es verdient mit ein wenig Fürsorge behandelt zu werden. Doch das wissen die Klappen Liebhaber und treffen sich hier deshalb Täglich ab 16 Uhr aufwärts zum gemeinsamen Cruisen. Die besten Zeiten sind hier ab 19 Uhr aufwärts, doch leider ist die Klappe am Theodor-Heuss-Platz nur offiziell von 08:00 Uhr bis 20:00 Uhr geöffnet. Doch das macht nichts, denn meistens ist sie immer ein wenig länger geöffnet und bei gutem wetter geht es auch noch nach 21 Uhr vor der Tür ab. Auch in der Dunkelheit kann man dort ein bisschen herumspazieren und immer wieder fündig werden.^[1]

Orte der queeren Sichtbarkeit sind unweigerlich Orte an denen auch Gewalt gegen queere Menschen sichtbar wird. Der Online-Bericht des Berliner LGBT-Anti-Gewalt-Projekts Maneo nennt für das Jahr 2022 261 bestätigte Fälle von Gewalt gegen LGBTIQ+-Personen in Berlin. Die Organisation schätzt jedoch, dass 80 bis 90% der Fälle queerfeindlicher Gewalt nicht gemeldet werden.^[2] Die Berliner LGBT-Monatszeitung „Siegessäule“ berichtet über alles, von verbalen Attacken und körperlichen Angriffen durch einzelne bis hin zu anti-queerem Viglantismus mit mehreren Angreifenden gegen Personen, die nach Einschätzung der Attackierenden am Theodor-Heuss-Platz cruise-ten.^[3]

The first public toilets in Berlin were erected in the early 1870s, made possible by the implementation beginning in 1862 of a general building plan for Berlin, the "Hobrecht-Plan". This comprehensive land-use plan stipulated, among other things, a state of the art sewer system for the rapidly growing city at the time portions of which are still in used today.

The predecessor of the current public toilet at Theodor-Heuss-Platz was likely built in the 1920s or 1930s adjacent to what was then the square's street car stop, and received its current appearance when it was remodeled presumably in the 1970-1980s.

The Gay Tea-Room at Theodor-Heuss-Platz

The tea-room at Theodor-Heuss-Platz is in the district of Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf. It is considered one of the most popular tea-rooms in and around Berlin. The square was originally built in 1907 as Reichskanzlerplatz. It was renamed Theodor-Heuss-Platz on December 18, 1963, just six days after the death of Germany's first Federal President, Theodor Heuss. Over the years it has had numerous other names. During the Nazi period, it had been renamed Adolf-Hitler-Platz, and there were plans at the time to again rename it Mussoliniplatz with grand buildings and monuments.

But as mentioned before, the tea-room at Theodor-Heuss-Platz is one of the, if not the most popular sex cottage in the city. Especially as it is a historic & classic 80s retro tea-room built below ground with a long communal urinal. It's one of the last of its kind in the gay capital, and deserving of a little TLC. Lovers of cottaging know this, and so meet here daily from 4 p.m. onwards to cruise. The best time to be there is from 7 p.m. onward. Unfortunately the tea-room at Theodor-Heuss-Platz is only officially open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. But no matter, because it's usually open a little longer, and when the weather is good, there is quite a bit of action outside even after 9 p.m. If you stroll around a bit after dark, you've got good chances of getting lucky there.^[4]

Instances of queer visibility are inevitably flash points of violance targeting queer people. The Berlin LGBT anti-violence project Maneo's 2022 on-line Report cites 261 confirmed cases of violence against LGBTIQ+ people for that year in Berlin. The organization estimates however that 80 to 90% of instances of queer-antagonistic violence go unreported.^[5] Berlin's LGBT monthly Siegessäule reports everything from verbal harrassement and individual physical attacks to group anti-queer vigilantism against people perceived by the assailants to be cruising at Theodor-Heuss-Platz.^[6]
