English: Proof of concept for a sliding block puzzle game (working title "Klots", based loosely on Klotski).
Players can push groups of color-matching blocks together, as long as no part of the group is blocked in that direction. Players need to be able to see a face against which to push to be able to push them. Groups will "stick" together if any faces connect. A ton of extensions on these core mechanics are possible, plus a lot of polish (e.g. animating the blocks sliding). This video includes one demo puzzle, utilizing only one color, and focused around basic "pushing" and the "sticking" mechanics. There are a lot of ways to softlock yourself (I demonstrate a couple; a reset button will be needed), including pushing blocks against a wall that you can't pry them back away from. I also demonstrate the correct solution to the puzzle (possibly one of a few). Currently the mod works stand-alone atop any other game; I used NodeCore as a base to provide static building materials and some basic mechanics. In the longer term, I anticipate this possibly being a stand-alone game itself. |
