Knockown Waterfall

Summary edit

Description
English: Waterfall in the townland of Knockown. It feeds into a curious basin of c.1.4m width with walls on either side. The basin is c. 8m long; at the end used to be a sluice gate before a small bridge. Nobody knows what the basin was for; it is too deep for a sheep dip. Some people have presumed it to be for a mill wheel, but there is no tradition of a mill at this location. A mass path led along this basin through the black gate in the photograph.
