Deutsch: Haupteingang des Rathauses Köpenick in Berlin-Köpenick

Köpenick ist heute ein Ortsteil im Bezirk Treptow-Köpenick im Südosten von Berlin, gelegen am Zusammenfluss von Spree und Dahme. Durch die Tat des Hauptmanns von Köpenick wurde die Stadt Cöpenick (bei Berlin) weltbekannt.
Bis zur Verwaltungsreform am 1. Januar 2001 gab es einen eigenständigen Stadtbezirk Köpenick. Neben dem Ortsteil Köpenick gehörten weitere Ortsteile zu dem deutlich größeren Bezirk Köpenick.
Der heutige Ortsteil Köpenick umfasst alle Stadtteile der ehemaligen Großstadt Köpenick. Im Sprachgebrauch werden neben der Köpenicker Insel (Alt-Köpenick) auch die nördlich gelegenen Stadtgebiete am Bahnhof Köpenick (Dammvorstadt, Kietz Vorstadt) zu Köpenick im engeren Sinne gezählt. Zum Ortsteil Köpenick gehören jedoch auch die anderen Vorstädte Köpenicks, etwa die südlicher gelegene Köllnische Vorstadt. Köpenick ist unter anderem Heimat des Fußballclubs 1. FC Union Berlin (momentan dritte Liga) sowie des Damen-Volleyball Erstligisten Köpenicker SC.
