Description

This Korean flag was captured in the attack on the Salee River Forts, 10-11 June 1871. Pictured from L to R are Private Hugh Purvis of the U.S.S. Alaska, assisted by Corporal Charles Brown of the U.S.S. Colorado, and Captain McLane Tilton, Commanding Marines. Both Purvis and Brown were subsequently awarded Medals of Honor for this action.
