Description
English: Focusing on the every day life of women the sitting room displays the objects that surrounded the lesser nobility, the social stratum Kossuth belonged to. The Kossuths were an old reputable family of middle-rank nobility with no land property. It’s male members traditionally making their living as county offices. Lajos Kossuth was born on September 19, 1802 in Monok to Laszló Udvardi Kossuth and Karolin Weber of Tyrling. The only boy child of the family (he had four sisters) followed in the footsteps of his father and having completed his legal studies returned to the County of Zemlén to start his career as a public attorney. The famine afflicting Zemplén County, the experience he gained in 1828-29 as a census taker of tax payers and the events of the cholera riots in 1831 all contributed to his realization that there was an urgent need for change. Finally, he became a member of the emerging reform opposition. He wins national renown at the 1832- 36 Diet (or Parliament) as a commentator. By the time of the last feudal diet in 1847-48, he became the leading figure of the Hungarian political scene.
