Zur Erinnerung an die Pest, die im 16. Jahrhundert in Weitensfeld geherrscht hat, wird alljährlich das Kranzelreiten abgehalten. Der Sage nach überlebten damals nur 3 Bürgersöhne und das Burgfräulein auf Schloss "Thurnhof". Da alle drei Männer um die Hand der jungen Frau anhielten, forderte sie diese zu einem Wettlauf auf. Der Sieger bekam sie zur Frau.
