Description

Eind jaren '80 werd dit plein naar de wereldcineast Joris Ivens vernoemd. Ivens, zoon van een bekende Nijmeegse ondernemer, werd in 1898 in Nijmegen geboren en overleed in 1989, een jaar nadat hij tot ereburger van de stad was benoemd. In 1990 werd het monument onthuld, dat midden op het plein staat. Het metershoge monument van plaatstaal doet denken aan een flessenopener maar moet worden gezien als een gestileerde filmcamera. Het is van de hand van Bas Maters (1949-2006). Erop staat:

Dikwijls, ver weg, bleef Nijmegen, mijn jeugd, toch dicht bij mij. Joris Ivens
