A simple enough task some of you electronics experts may say, but I am a relative beginner and learning daily. My task is to take an LCD display and with the moderndevices board get it to speak to the Arduino via the Arduinome shield on top of it. I want get some secondary alphanumeric visual feedback of what's going on when I control my Arduinome 128. ST8 on the monome forum provided the initial interfacing code for integrating an LCD for Ableton Live's Cliplauncher feedback. I do not use Ableton live so I'm taking his code and further adapting it so that OSC messages from Plogue Bidule/Supercollider/Max:Msp are sent back to the LCD panel so as I create live patches (a technique loosely derived from livecoding) -- any alterations and connections between sounds and controller inputs can be given minimal feedback for what I am doing -- making it possible to set up processes in Plogue Bidule that communicate with the Arduinome and then I only look at the LCD screen. My personal goal is to set the laptop up prior to a performance and run it headless (or lid closed). This is a nice bright display I bought super cheap via the USA on eBay. Its got a good contrast and field of vision and it's bright! Although this comes at a price, @ 250mA I need to power it from an external 5V source so far powering it via USB causes the Arduino to conk out (anything above 150mA will need external power!) |
