(b. 1576, Bologna, d. 1622, Parma) Aeneas and Anchises c. 1615 Oil on canvas, 195 x 132 cm Musée du Louvre, Paris Spada, trained by the Carracci in Bologna, discovered Caravaggio in Rome, and established a synthesis of their styles: in Aeneas and Anchises the dramatic tension sustained by a violent chiaroscuro is combined with classical colours and rigour.
