Apollon et Daphné 1622-1625 Le Bernin (Gian Lorenzo Bernini) marbre de Carrare Galerie Borghèse (photo iphone)

Le Bernin a commencé à réaliser cette statue à l'age de 24 ans, suite à une commande du Cardinal Scipion Borghèse. La sculpture illustre un épisode des Métamorphoses d'Ovide : Daphné se métamorphosant en laurier pour échapper à Apollon.

Sur le socle, à l'époque du Cardinal était écrit en latin : Celui qui aime suivre les formes fugaces du divertissement finit par se retrouver avec des feuilles et des baies amères.
