La gare de Saint-Quentin a été reconstruite en 1925-1926, après sa destruction pendant la guerre de 14-18, par deux architectes Gustave Umbdenstock (1866-1940) et Urbain Cassan (1890-1979) qui ont repris le projet dessiné en 1922 par l'architecte Paul Bigot (1870-1942) chargé du plan de reconstruction de la cité en grande partie détruite. Le parvis a été rénové en 2014-2016. Le buffet-hôtel a été réouvert en 1926 et aménagé dans le style art déco par Urbain Cassan. L'établissement a fermé en 1990 mais les décors du buffet (vitraux, mosaïques murales, mosaïques du comptoir et de l'entrée) n'avaient heureusement pas été détruits. Le mobilier et les luminaires d'origine ont par contre disparu. Les vitraux et mosaïques sont du maître-verrier Auguste Labouret (1871-1964) qui avait travaillé à la décoration de l'hôtel Lutetia à Paris. La ville a procédé de 2016 à 2017 à la restauration du buffet et de l'entrée de l'hôtel, avec l'aide de l'État, de la Région et du département. La ville collabore avec le lycée des métiers de l'ameublement de Saint-Quentin qui a réalisé des meubles art déco dans le style du buffet pour réaménager ce lieu désormais ouvert au public.
