Description

Salles d'exposition de la nouvelle Galerie national / Neue Nationalgalerie / New National Gallery Le bâtiment a été conçu par l'architecte Mies van der Rohe, dernier directeur du Bauhaus, et inauguré en 1968. C'est le seul édifice qu'il a construit après guerre en Allemagne.

Le projet initial était destiné à un immeuble de bureaux à Cuba qui n'a pas été réalisé en raison de la révolution castriste.

Huit colonnes d'acier placées sur un socle en granite gris supportent le toit carré lui aussi construit en acier. Les salles permanentes du musée sont situées au sous-sol, des expositions temporaires sont organisées au niveau supérieur qui est entouré de parois en verre.
