La Manga Hiti est l'une des fontaines de Patan, au nord de l'ancien palais royal. La pénurie d'eau est constante durant la saison sèche dans la zone urbaine de Katmandou mais il en est de même dans de nombreux villages du Népal. Dans la vallée, L’approvisionnement en eau est insuffisant pour une communauté de près de 2.000.000 habitants, les infrastructures n'ont pas suivi la croissance urbaine liée à l'évolution démographique et à l'immigration venant des zones rurales. A cette pénurie, s'ajoutent les coupures quotidiennes d'électricité durant plusieurs heures.
