| Description | The w:ladder paradox can be confusing, because events at different places are not simultaneous in both frames. At top, in the barn's frame, a foreshortened ladder enters a barn, leaving time for the door to close before an explosion from the impact site at the rear fills the barn. At bottom, the explosion in the ladder's frame begins long before the rear end of the ladder enters the barn, long before the door has closed behind the rear end of the ladder. However, as the barn is (and must be) moving at nearly the speed of light for it to be this foreshortened, the explosion, even moving at the speed of light, cannot escape the barn door before it closes. |
