English: Schematic cross section of the dipping geolocical strata of the northeastern forefront of the Swabian Alb, including the river gate into the Swabian Alb at Aalen. The Neckar triburaries Kocher and Jagst captured the danubian anastomosing river system (braided rivers with very gentle gradient) of Miocene and Pleistocene age in middle Pleistocene. The graben of the Upper Rhine valley and the headward erosion of rivers Rhine, Neckar and their tributaries changed the drainage system of the Danube system drastically – in favour of the rhenish system. The existence of a danubian river system of pleistocene age is verified mainly by the Goldshöfer Sande. Its Paleogene age is verified by sedimental rests found on the Upper Jurasic of the Swabian Alb ("Ochsenberg-Schotter"). |
