La Laguna Tebenquiche es parte de la trilogía de lagunas que se encuentran en cercanías de San Pedro de Atacama. Los Atacameños hablaban de estas lagunas como los Ojos turquesa del Salar de Atacama, por Cejar, los Ojos del Salar y Tebinquinche. Esta maravilla natural se encuentra emplazada en el Salar de Atacama, el más grande de Chile con una superficie de 3.000 km2 aproximadamente. Bajo el salar hay un lago furtivo por una gruesa capa de sal, que contiene las mayores reservas de litio del mundo. Esta capa se ha abierto en algunos lugares, exponiendo lagunas que son hábitat de aves como flamencos, taguas y guallatas. |
