Summary edit

Description
English: Lalbagh Fort, also known as Fort Aurangabad, is a historical fortress located in Old Dhaka, Bangladesh. It was constructed in the 17th century during the Mughal period under the reign of Emperor Aurangzeb. The fort is situated on the southwestern part of the old city, along the Buriganga River.

One of the notable features of Lalbagh Fort is its defensive wall. The fort's wall is made of brick and measures approximately 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) in length. It encloses an area of around 18 acres, encompassing various structures such as mosques, palaces, gardens, and a tomb.

The wall of Lalbagh Fort served as a protective barrier for the complex, ensuring its security during the Mughal era. However, the fort was left incomplete due to the untimely death of its principal builder, Prince Muhammad Azam, who was the son of Emperor Aurangzeb. As a result, some parts of the fort, including the planned southern gate, remain unfinished.

Today, Lalbagh Fort and its walls stand as a historical and architectural monument, attracting tourists and visitors who are interested in exploring the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh. The fort complex houses several structures of historical significance, such as the Mausoleum of Pari Bibi (the daughter of Emperor Shah Jahan), the Diwan-i-Aam (public audience hall), the Hammam (bathhouse), and the Mosque of Nawab Shaista Khan.

The Lalbagh Fort walls, with their ancient charm and grandeur, provide a glimpse into the architectural brilliance of the Mughal period and serve as a testament to Bangladesh's rich history.
